‘My goal was to capture something from every solo album, and the video is basically chronological. Starting with CD and ending with MBDTF. I entitled it Where The Lonely Kids Go When The Bell Rings (I know that’s not the actual line in Eyes Closed), because I feel like that sums up Kanye’s career – The outsider. The misunderstood genius.’..

and so it goes. Checkitout.

Rap and R&B seem to be entering an era where unorthodox seems to be the standard, in which case, Chance the Rapper seems like he’s struck at the perfect time for his talent to be recognized.

I got to see Chance when he was visiting my alma mater back in March with Joey BadA$$. I actually think I was one of the few actually there to see Chance as Boston has so much love for Joey, but I had checked out this Chicago rappers stuff after stumbling across him on the interwebs and it was clear that the kid had talent. I was hooked and it of course got me excited about his then, up and coming mixtape, ‘Acid Rap.’

His first mixtape ’10 Day’ gave indication of his signature style of flowing on a track. He somehow manages to jump from seemingly unrelated topics in a few bars. This might be considered choppy to some that can’t see the art in the way he links things, but in a sense he’s no greater representation of our generation and our ADHD brains. Each line is like switching from one googled topic to another, as if your clicking up on the links mentioned on the previous line.

Even though his style doesn’t seem to really match anyone who has stepped in the arena before, you can hear traces of other’s reflected in his approach. In ‘Acid Rap’ he mixes in singing that is somewhat reminiscent of Kid Cudi. The singing is usually off key and might not be considered pretty to the ears but yet it somehow connects to the story he’s trying to tell. There was also a bit of a ringing of Eminem in the 2nd half of ‘Pusha Man’ and ‘Everybody’s Something.’ I guess this is why he was able to pull in big names like Childish Gambino and Twista on his tracklists.

The mixtape also takes on a silly approach silly as he repeatedly uses “nananas” to give you the sense of him teasing someone on the track versus the mid 2000 way where Akon and Rihanna would use it to get their songs stuck in your head. But even though he mixes humor into Acid Rap, he also takes the time to bring insight on political and social problems that affected his life. He addresses the problems Chicago faces like it’s crime rate and the similarities between Hurricane Katrina and the way the his city is being treated in such an intelligent way it would surprise you this he is a drop out.

It’s pretty clear this kid has a bright future ahead, so if your someone who’s open to the development of hip-hop music please check out ‘Acid Rap‘ because it will definitely not disappoint.

‘Plank’ is a short film/documentary garnered much acknowledment at the Internation Skate Film Festival of 2012 in Los Angeles. The film is not only a simple and honest it is also drawing because of the true life story it follows. Nassim Guammaz, a Morracan skater now living in the Netherlands is the subject ‘Plank’ and is currently on a speedy rise within the international skate community. The doc seems to be a chill addition to his skate life yet currently when in the states he skates and films with crews like Vans, Element, and Volcom. Not too bad. Check out the doc, and you’ll watch a young adolescent trying to figure out how to make it.. and in any recent vids, you’ll see how he did. Enjoy.
