• Save Our Souls (SOS) was founded in 2010 by brothers, Samson and Simeon Awosan, Save Our Souls (SOS) began as clothing company. In the tradition of great streetwear lines before us, we started out with T-shirts. We wanted to make clothing that showed love for the neighborhood that raised us--Roxbury, Boston, MA. Since our first line, we have continued pay homage to those who came before us and whose history of struggle is often forgotten (see our '10 line for the "Respect Tribes shirt",  '11" Fort Hill"). At the same time, our clothing celebrates our experience of arriving to the city. In 1994, we emigrated from Nigeria. Departing from our birthplace, we were greeted by an energetic, bustling, and ethnically diverse city. U.S. hip hop culture and street wear were still rooted in community (rather than pure commercialism). Here, we created a new life. SOS was born out of this experience, our love for the city, and culture that welcomed us.

Our first line drew on both our personal lives and the history of Boston. With very little money, we began producing T-shirts, and soon new endeavors emerged. As a small company, we took initiative to do our own publicity. Rather than hiring someone to do photos, we taught ourselves and purchased a camera. Our "cousin" and SOS member, Seun Ajewole, was our first model! In order to push the new line, we developed a website. To the website, we soon added a blog to share our ideas. The blog then drew in new people who wanted to contribute to the cultivation of a locally grown hip-hop culture. Like the hip-hop and street wear that we so love, SOS has grown organically. We continue to expand, adding new people and cultivating our skills. Now, we do much more than make clothes; we have grown by learning, sharing, and creating a collaborative environment.

  • Film/Photography
SOS films produces videos for local artists, businesses, and organizations. In our work, ranging from music videos to promotional materials, we work hand-in-hand with our clients. From the early stages of concept development to editing to the final product, we value our client's vision and participation. At the same time, we bring our years of experience to the table, guiding the process.

    Events
Part of building community is creating a space in which folks can gather to share and appreciate locally grown and inspired art. An ongoing project, "Around the Way," shares the stories behind the people and organizations, which shape the city of Boston. Through interviews, we create an oral history of how people find a home, create a community, and act to better it. In addition to interviews, we showcase artists from around the way (be it Hong Kong, New York, or local to Boston). Our concerts, gallery nights, and parties enrich the ability of young people to build a network of passionate, motivated, and like minded individuals.

    Clothing
SOS clothing is keeping alive the great tradition of street wear. Aesthetically, we maintain minimalist yet prolific designs. For more information, please see our history page and visit our shop.

  • We believe in ideas that grow out of collaboration, learning as an ongoing process, and communal history as a source of inspiration. Street wear culture is participatory, playful, experimental, ground-breaking. However, it is also built on the struggle and achievements of those that came before. SOS is committed to this ethic of reverence and creation. Street wear, hip-hop, and youth culture are all avenues in which we can creatively express ourselves and contribute to the city we love.

  • The SOS Creative Collaborative draws on our vision of participatory street wear culture. As we continue to grow, we have formalized our collaborative work environment into a training program. New members are welcome to bring their unique skills to the Collaborative. They also will have the opportunity be trained in any of our areas of work, eventually organizing their own events, producing videos, and much more! Please contact us about possible internships.
